First of let me say Happy Valentines Day to all those lover's out there. This weekend I explored the Shenandoah's by going winter hiking. The original plan was to actually go into the National Park and go on a seven mile circuit hike called Ripidian Camp, however the snowcalypse prevented this from happening. The road called Skyline Drive which runs through the park was closed due to this so called inclement weather. Pshh three feet of snow....come on Virgina.!!
So instead of going into the National Park, we explored the surrounding area of Luray, VA. We found a hike called the Kennedy Peak Falls hike which is a four mile round trip hike to a scenic overlook of the Luray Valley. The guy that recommended the hike was specific in his directions, however somehow we misintepreted and ended up along a road for about 1/2 of mile tregging through the snow before realizing that powerlines and mailboxes was probably a bad sign. We turned around and found the right trail. However, unlike the road trail, the right trail had no footprints so we had to walk through around 2 1/2 feet of untouched snow, which folks let me tell is not easy. We didn't make it those 2 miles to the top of the peak, but we did pretty well considering the circumstances. The hike was incredibly beautiful as was the entire Shenandoah Valley.
Today we explored Luray Caverns, and underground marvel. It was pretty cool to see all the formations. Very dark and damp but very mystical nonetheless.
All and all it was an awesome weekend and I couldn't be more excited to finally write about more of my hiking adventures! Till next adventure folks.
