Once a city girl, always a city girl

Bonjour!

I decided to start this blog entry with a bit of a french twist. Today marks the halfway point between how long I have been here and how long I have left, 41 days. I hate to say that I have been counting the days but I have been counting the days. Don't get me wrong I don't hate it here, but I certainly don't love it.

I miss NYC so much and it's a bit worry some. I want to be a nature girl in all sense of the word but can I truly claim to be such when I am having such a hard time being here in the country for 41 days? I think that once your a city girl, you are always a city girl.

This week marked the first week of the alpine tour, the five hour tour up along trail ridge road. It was a five hour tour which went remarkably well. I remembered more than I thought I was going to remember and I was told by various people on the tour that they really enjoyed themselves and that I was doing a great job. The kids of the bus referred to me as Ms. Emilie!!! All and all in went better than expected and I am looking forward to giving my next tour on Wednesday. As far as the other shuttles are going, they are not as successful. Hopefully by the end of the summer I will perfect all programs on the shuttle buses.

Lately I've been thinking about the future, probably because I am graduating in a year and that seems to be the topic of discussion I have with visitors ever 5 seconds. I don't exactly know what I want to do, but I do know that I want to live on the East Coast in a major city. My top three choices of places to live after I graduate are DC, Boston, and NYC in that order. DC is a great city in many respects. It is a bit less expensive than NYC but has most of what NYC has to offer. Great museums, great restaurants, great bars and of course the nail on the head PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION.

Living out here in Colorado has made me realize how dependent Americans are on cars. I personally prefer hopping on the train and commuting to work this way rather than driving; hence the emphasis on city living. I am sitting in a coffee shop in Estes Park which I had to walk 2 and 1/2 miles to get to from my cabin. Yes there are buses that go here but they are not nerely as frequent as city buses are.

In conclusion Colorado is a place to spend a summer but as of right now, and in my early twenties I need a city to entertain me. Am I wrong? I think not. Once a city girl, always a city girl.
